The picture on the left is an image of an everyday object taken with the Zygo NewView 6000. Can you guess what it is? It's quite a hard image to guess, and you might have to ring a friend for some help. |
Here are some more detailed images, showing the surface features and surface roughness of this object. The image on the left shows a peak to valley of 1.079um and a surface roughness average (Ra) of 89.102nm along a cross section, whilst the image on the right is a 3D model of the surface at a higher magnification of the image above.
OK. Time to put you out of your misery; it is a surface profile of a diamond in a diamond ring. You can see the edges of the facets in the first image, and scratches on the very flat surface in the second.
