New GigE Vision Cameras Break Size and Performance Barriers
04 Oct 2006
Prosilica has once again surprised the industry by introducing a new line of ultra-compact gigabit Ethernet cameras for machine vision and industrial applications.
The new GC-Series cameras from Prosilica are believed to be the smallest gigabit Ethernet cameras in the world. Measuring 4.3 x 4.6 x 3.3 cm, these GigE Vision™ compliant cameras weight as little as 99 grams. Such small size, light weight and low power consumption make these cameras idea for semiconductor inspection, avionics and robotic applications.
But don’t let the small size fool you -- more features and performance are packed into these cameras than ever before. The new GC-Series cameras have all the outstanding performance features found in other Prosilica’s cameras including region of interest readout, binning modes to 8x8 pixels, high frame rates, and various color output modes including RGB. The cameras also include on-camera color interpolation, rugged design, and excellent software development kit and much more.
Prosilica engineered every detail of these cameras – electronics, gigabit Ethernet interface, drivers, and software -- and are thus able to provide camera performance and technical support that exceeds its competitors’. Prosilica’s GigE Vision gigabit Ethernet interface is capable of sustained data rates of 125 MByte/s on standard Ethernet cable up to 100 meters long. A resend mechanism ensures very high levels of data integrity that far exceed other camera interfaces such as cameralink, USB, and even firewire. Not everyone needs the blazing fast data rates offered by Prosilica’s gigabit Ethernet cameras, so Prosilica’s gigabit Ethernet cameras include controls to finely adjust the data rate so that they can be operated even over very slow network links such as wireless Ethernet networks.
“The new GC-Series from Prosilica further extends Prosilica’s leadership in the Gigabit Ethernet machine vision camera market”, says Prosilica CEO Marty Furse. “Prosilica’s GC-Series ultra-compact GigE Vision cameras are believed to the smallest, fastest, and lightest weight gigabit Ethernet CCD cameras in the world”.
Applications for the GC-Series GigE Vision cameras include the complete range machine vision applications including manufacturing quality assurance, gauging, inspection, robotics, medical imaging, semiconductor manufacturing, food processing, packing and symbol reading, OCR, and electronics inspection. Wherever area-scan cameras are used in computer vision applications, the GC-Series cameras will find a home. The low power consumption and excellent environment specs extend its application outside of conventional machine vision markets to include traffic imaging and specialized public security applications. Because of the GC-Series small size and light weight, it is also used in aerospace applications.
