The New UP19K-VR Volume Absorber from Gentec Electro-Optics

21 August 2008

The UP19K-VR volume absorber is suitable for measuring the average power of lasers with higher peak powers than ever before, replacing the the UP19K-VM/VH series detectors.

The UP19K series Volume Absorber

The highlights of this new detector offered in the UP19K housing are:

  • Available in 15W stand alone and 30W heatsink versions
  • Maximum Energy density: 6 J/cm2 (1064nm, 7ns, 10Hz)
  • Maximum Peak Power Density: 860 MW/cm2 (1064nm, 7ns, 10Hz)
  • Maximum Average Power Density: 700W/cm2
  • Excellent measurement accuracy (calibration uncertainty: +/- 2.5%)
  • A low noise level (Noise Equivalent Power level: 2.5mW);
The improved 700W/cm2 specification has a direct impact on the durability of absorber itself. Typical glass absorbers will chip with repetitive pulses. The 230% increase in maximum Average Power density will prevent this type of degradation.

The new VR detector is suitable for use in conjunction with high energy
Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers such as:

Quantel Brilliant EaZy
Quantel Brilliant
Quantel Brilliant B
Quantel USA CFR 400
