Acousto Optic Modulators (AOM)

An Acousto-Optic modulator (AOM), or Bragg cell, uses the acousto-optic effect to diffract and shift the frequency of light using radio frequency sound waves.

They are used in lasers for Q-switching, telecommunications for signal modulation, and in spectroscopy for frequency control.

Acousto Optic Deflectors (AOD)

An Acousto-Optic Deflector (AOD) is a device for spatially controlling a laser beam. The acoustic frequency applied to deflector is varied to deflect the beam to different angular positions, by making use of the acoustic frequency dependent diffraction angle.

Acousto-Optic Frequency Shifter (AOFS)

An Acousto-Optic Frequency Shifter (AOFS) is a device that modifies the frequency of the optical beam via the Doppler effect. The acoustic wave travelling though the devices crystal causes the frequency of the beam to increase or decrease in proportion to the RF driving frequency.
