For optimal illumination of contours and edges of objects, dark field lighting is able to provide parallel direction of light. This results in the light being only reflected at the edges of the object toward the camera. For increasing object size, there is a wide range of ring diameters available; 58-281 mm. These lighting units have a diffuser for evenness of illumination. It is recommended that to determine the size of the dark field ring light, there must be sufficient distance between the object and the interior border of the ring light (at least 20-40 mm). The standard light beam is set to 80° in manufacture but custom builds can be achieved between 70–90°.
